Memorial services for James Richard Barnard, 68, will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Tim Jones.
James was born October 10, 1942 at McMillan, Oklahoma. Of Native American heritage, James was a member of the Choctaw tribe. A resident of this area all of his life, he had served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He passed away July 22, 2011 in an Oklahoma City hospital.
At Lakeview Golf Course he had been the superintendent of greens. James enjoyed fishing and ‘hanging out’ with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At the time of his death, James was survived by four sons, William Barnard, David Barnard and his wife, Luana, Richard Barnard, Thomas Barnard and a daughter, Betty Barnard, all of Ardmore; his adopted mother, LaVerne Bates of California; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Shelton, Ann Chastian, Annie Nichols, Helen Shelton, Linda Gibson, Martha Thompson, Cocoa (Catrina) Roberts and Karen Tinsley; brothers, Glen Shelton and Cecil Shelton.
Preceding him in death were his biological parents, Jeff Miller and Irene Tom, a son, Jeffery Barnard and his adopted father, James J. Barnard; sister, Faye Culley and granddaughter, Jessica Barnard.
