Born: January 07, 1934
Died: June 21, 2011
Charles Earl Goodall, 77, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his home in Commerce.
He was the first African American assistant football coach at ETSU (now Texas A&M Univeristy - Commerce) in the 1970's. During his tenure, they won a national championship. He was also on the faculty staff at the university and is considered "The Father of Intramural Sports" because he was responsible for starting it there. The College honored him by flying the flag at half-mast 2 days after his passing. It has been a blessing to have so many people share, their hearts about what a wonderful man he was. We knew that already. But, when others say it with such love, it’s a bit overwhelming
Memorial services will be conducted at Mount Mariah Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
There will be a Memorial Celebration Reception from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at the Student Center at TAMU-Commerce on the second floor. This will be a celebration to honor and remember the life of Coach Charles "Doc" Goodall.
In Charles' memory, the family asks that donations be made to the Charles and Willa Goodall Endowment at the following address:
