Wilfred L. “Lenny” Baird, 85, of 114 Pine St. Ext. died unexpectedly Saturday, June 18, 2011 in UMass-Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester. His wife of 62 years, Dorothy L. (Meldrum) Baird, died in 2009.
He leaves his children: Leonard D. Baird, Joan Marino and her husband, Joseph, Robert Baird and his wife, Carla, and Sandra Hisman, all of Clinton; a brother, Alfred Baird of Clinton; two sisters: Anna Crossman of Clinton and Barbara Berry of CT; a brother-in-law, John Meldrum of FL; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Eight brothers, Govern, William, Thomas, Francis, Clarence, David, Edward & John Baird, predeceased him.
Lenny was born and raised in Clinton, son of Thomas and Annie (LaFountain) Baird, Sr., and was a life-long resident. He attended local schools, and was a US Army veteran of WWII.
A career military man, Lenny retired from the US Army and the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1985, after 40 years of service to his state and country.
Following retirement, he enjoyed working at the Clinton Recycling Center, as well as working at the Town Elections and meetings.
He was a member of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the Clinton Lodge of Elks, and the American Legion.
Lenny’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., in the funeral home.
