Sally A. Bell, 68, of Worcester, formerly of Clinton, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Beaumont at University Campus, Worcester. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and died with her family and friends by her side.
She leaves five sisters and their families: Delores Gain of Millbury, Lorraine Mooney of MN, Sheila Williams of NC, Ann Arruda of RI, and Geraldine Martins of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Patricia E. (Hughes) Bell of Clinton; many nieces and nephews and many close, dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert J. Bell, who died in 2010 and a brother-in-law, William Gain.
Sally was born in Fall River, daughter of Rita Bell. She was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School and Western Massachusetts Hospital School of Nursing. She later attended Worcester State College and received a degree in Social Work. For thirty years she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Licensed Social Worker at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
Sally was a devout member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Clinton, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. After she retired, she spent many hours volunteering with The CASA Project, Inc., of Worcester, as a court appointed special advocate for children. In addition, she volunteered with the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Program. A true animal lover, she had a great affinity for her cats.
Sally’s funeral will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at the funeral home on Monday morning, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral Mass.
