Rita was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of DeKalb and served 37 years as a pastoral secretary and office manager at the Newman Catholic Student Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University. Upon her retirement in 1994, Rita received a special papal blessing from Pope John Paul II for her many years of dedication to the Newman Catholic Student Center and its ministry to students. Rita’s dedication and service to others was matched only by her love for flower gardening.
Rita is survived by her five children, Robert (Donna), Charles (Marti), Edward, Judy (Mark) Schneider and David (Renee); 12 grandchildren, Rebecca, Julie, Elinor, Matthew, Laura, Josh, Channing, Abigail, Samuel, Madeline, Katherine and Alexandra; two sisters, Madeline Steimel and Eileen Heinisch; and two brothers, Charles and Donald Faivre.
