Samuel Alecci, 87, passed away peacefully in Oakland, NJ on Thursday, January 6, 2011, surrounded by his family.
Born in Paterson on June 22, 1923, Sam was the son of Concetta and Georgio Alecci. A veteran of the US Navy, he was a radioman on the U.S.S. Argonne during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Sam worked as a real estate agent and appraiser at Connelly Associates for over 40 years. He married Florence Deeda on August 25, 1951 and the couple lived in Paterson before moving to Pompton Lakes in 1956. Sam was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary's RC Church in Pompton Lakes. He enjoyed vacationing at Lake George, spending time in his pool with the family, watching old movies, and going to the races.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Florence; his son Samuel Jr. and his wife Jill; his three daughters, Kathleene Wigfield and her husband David, Patricia Pickens and her husband Howard and Cindy Reiser and her husband Matt; and his six cherished grandchildren, Tracey and Ashley Wigfield, Justin Pickens, Brianne and Alex Alecci, and Zackary Reiser. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph and his sister, Jennie.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Saturday, January 15th, at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in memory of Samuel Alecci to Oakland Care Center (Recreation Department), 20 Breakneck Road, Oakland, NJ, 07436, who provided kind and loving care to Sam in his final years.
