We always encourage celebrating the life of the deceased person we are called on to memorialize, and this includes honoring their values and ideals. For those passionate about the earth and the preservation of natural resources, a "green" funeral allows for the body to be returned to the earth in its natural state, free of harmful chemicals and in a manner that preserves the earth. In some cemeteries, a biodegradable casket can be used; in others, the body only needs to be shrouded in a cotton or linen cloth.
There are several cemeteries within a day's driving distance that provide the green burial option:
1. Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ.
2. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
3. Steelmantown Cemetery, Steelmantown, NJ.
4. West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwid, PA.
