(November 11, 1926 - November 13, 2010)

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Edgar “Harold” Akers, a lifelong resident of Raleigh County, went home to the Lord Saturday, November 13th, 2010, two days after his 85th birthday. He spent his last days with his immediate family in South Carolina.

Born November 11, 1926, Harold lived his whole life in Raleigh County, W.Va. He was the son of the late Charles and Mamie Jennings Akers of Princewick. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann, and brothers, Buford, Clyde, Donald, Raymond and Bruce Akers, and an infant sister, Mary.

Harold retired in 1978 from Amigo Smokeless Coal after 38 years underground in the coal mine. He is a Christian and spent his last years lovingly devoting himself to caring for his wife of 62 years.

He is survived by his lifelong love, Leatrice Cregger Akers of Beckley; son Dave Akers of Rock Hill, S.C. and grandson Matthew Bowles of Beckley.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Rose & Quesenberry Peace Chapel, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, with the Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal City Community Cemetery.

There will be a one hour viewing one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandson, Matthew Bowles, sons-in-law, Allen Bowles and Gary Bullick, nephew Donald E. Riffe Sr. and long time friends, Elmer Adkins and Dewitt McGraw.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.
