Ann Marie McCarville, age 70, of Carroll, Iowa died peacefully in her home on Friday, October 22, 2010 in Carroll.
Born on March 29, 1940 in Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Cletus ”Mac” and Bernice (Booth) Hermsen. She was married to Andy Carruthers on August 13, 1960 at the Catholic Church in Manson, Iowa, with Father Charles Kniep as celebrant. Andy died April 12, 200l. She later married Bill McCarville on November 24, 2006 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Father James McCormick as celebrant. Ann attended and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High school in 1958 and then attended St. Joseph School of nursing in Sioux City. Following college she worked at various jobs, her last being Regional Manager for Sprint in Virginia. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, reading, playing cards and going for long drives. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. She was a member of St. Anthony Hospital auxiliary, Holy Spirit Ladies guild, and she was active with the Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts. Ann was responsible for starting the girl’s soft ball league in Carroll. Ann was an active fundraiser for the Lukemia/Lymphoma Foundation.
Surviving are her husband Bill McCarville of Carroll; a son Cletus Carruthers and his wife Charolette of Carroll; two daughters: Cathy Moninger and her husband Dan of Batavia, Illinois, and Cindy Tunning and her husband Marty of Iowa City, Iowa; five grandchildren: Dr. Michael Tunning and his wife Katie, SSgt. Marshall Carruthers and his wife Molly, Makenzie Schutt and her husband Tony, Maxwell Tunning, and Daniel Moninger; two great grandchildren: Jackson Carruthers and Jamison Carruthers; a brother John Hermsen of Lake of the Ozarks; and numerous special nephews and nieces. Also surviving are four step children: Dean McCarville and his wife Deb of Ankeny, Iowa; Jeff McCarville and his wife Nancy of Carroll; Kelly McCarville and his wife Cindy of Troy, Illinois; and Beth Chia and her husband Nick of Des Moines; nine step grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a son Chuck, a sister Theresa Popp and a brother Robert Hermsen in infancy.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Tim Johnson as celebrant. Mrs. Barb McDermott will be organist and John Wagner will sing. Lector for Mass will be Makenzie Schutt, gift bearers will be the grandchildren, Eucharistic minister will be Tom Collison. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Hermsen, Dean McCarville, Jeff Mc Carville, Rich Hermsen, Kelly Mc Carville, Nick Chia, and Dr. Scott Fletcher. At Ann’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Ann for the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City and Cancer research. Memorials may be left at the Church at the time of the Mass.
