Marie Marchman Whitaker age 93 passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Services will be held at 3PM Friday, September 7, at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Nipper officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitaker was a native and life-long resident of Milledgeville. She graduated from G.S.C.W. in 1940 and taught Home Economics for a brief time at Midway High School and also at Wrightsville High School. She was co-owner of Marchman’s Store in Hardwick, GA from 1943-1986. She was a member of Hardwick Christian Church and later of Northridge Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard Moses and Annie Ward Marchman, her husband of 64 years Woodrow Wilson Whitaker, and a daughter Thurza Whitaker Strag. Mrs. Whitaker loved her Lord, family, church, and her friends. She was blessed to enjoy a long life filled with a loving family, many fond memories, and friends. Mrs. Whitaker was a blessing to others by her acts of love, kindness, compassion, and generosity.

Survivors include her daughters Anne Whitaker Howell (John Roy) of Hardwick, Marcha Whitaker Thompson (John) of Kitty Hawk, NC; grandchildren Benjamin Strag (Renee) of High Point, NC, Rebecca Thompson of Dayton, ME; Tricia Thompson Meeks (Chris) of Garner, NC, great-grandchildren, Harrison Strag and Nicholas Strag both of High Point, NC.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6PM until 8PM and also on Friday from 2PM until the funeral hour at Moores Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitakers family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff of Green Acres Nursing Home for their kindness, love, compassion and care of Mrs. Whitaker.
