Ouida McCoy Ayers
(August 21, 1924 - June 11, 2012)
Ouida McCoy Ayers passed away peacefully on June 11, 2012 in Winston Salem, NC. Graveside services will be held at 8:30am on Sunday, August 19 at West View Cemetery with Father Carl Buice officiating.
Mrs. Ayers was born in Milledgeville, GA on August 21, 1924, and was a graduate of The University of Georgia and Emory University. She was preceded in death by her parents Lee Robert and Ethel Dickerson McCoy; her sister, Jeannette McCoy Lewis and her brother, Lee Robert McCoy Jr. In addition to being a loving and devoted mother, she worked as a medical technologist in bacteriology research, retiring from Duke Medical Center in 1991. She was an avid outdoorswoman, including being an archery champion in college, a Girl Scout leader, and an active member of the Sierra Club. In retirement she studied the art of bird carving and was an active member of the carving group Women With Knives. She was a talented artist and won many awards and ribbons for her beautiful birds.
Mrs. Ayers is survived by her four daughters, Lynn Ayers Lamb (Phil) of Winston Salem, NC; Gail Ayers of Saxapahaw, NC; Annette Ayers Hoskins of Hickory, NC; and Trish Ayers Dean (Jody) of Winston Salem, NC; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:30pm on Saturday, August 18 at Comfort Suites on Columbia Street, Milledgeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, Attention: Finance, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
