Services: Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Granberry Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Howard Abernathy officiating. Interment followed at National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, MO.

Geraldine Ethel Levy Gantt was the youngest of seven children born to the union of Edward W. and Amanda Levy. She was born in St. Louis, MO. Geraldine attended St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from Sumner High School. She continued her education at Stow Teachers College and received a BA in Education in 1945. She taught at various St. Louis Public Schools and was one of the first staff members to open Pruitt and Stevens schools. She was a longtime member of the St. James AME Church. Geraldine enjoyed hosting holiday dinner parties for family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed watching game shows on television, trips to the casino and spending time with her beloved dog, Tank. On July 10, 1948, she was united in holy matrimony to Hursel James Gantt, Sr. to this union two children were born. Geraldine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Geraldine leaves to cherish her memories; two children, Hursel Jr. (Patricia) and Cheryl Bailey (Tony), five grandchildren, great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews, one "other" son, Rev. Howard Abernathy (Teresa) and life-long friends, Arzella Abernathy and Minnie Smith and other relatives and friends.
