Jack Childress, 79, of Eutawville, SC, a former long distance truck driver, died Tuesday morning at his residence.

His funeral will be 7:00 PM this Thursday evening, June 21, 2012, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will follow on Friday at 1:00 PM in the Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until the hour of service this Thursday evening.

Mr. Childress was born April 19, 1933, in Grundy, VA, a son of William Childress and Louise Owens Childress. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Grays Hill Baptist Church in Beaufort. Mr. Childress was formerly employed at Parris Island, and he enjoyed fishing and watching John Wayne movies.

Surviving are, his wife, Margie Harley Childress; two sons, Cliff Peer and his wife, Cathy, of Eutawville, and Jamie Tanner and his wife, Shannon, of Chesapeake, VA; a former daughter-in-law, Nicole Berkowitz of Anderson; a sister, Gertrude Page of Floyd, VA; and eight grandchildren.
