
Julian Comer Johns, age 62 of Virginia Beach passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at his home with family by his side after a courageous struggle with COPD and emphysema. Julian was born and raised in Andalusia Alabama; he served during the Vietnam War and retired after 33 years working for NADEP and FISC at the Norfolk Naval Base, and also a member of the American Legion. He was a kind, funny and gentle man who was highly respected for his personal and business commitments. He will be missed by the many whose lives he touched. To say that he was “a man of his word” merely touches on his devotion to his work as well as his family. He was a proud Pop Pop, wonderful husband and father who always put his wife, daughter and grandson first. His legacy of loving gestures and friendly manners to all he came in contact with will always be revered and treasured. In the words of his wife “I image that Julian is in heaven sharing with others the proper use of a level, duct tape and bungee cords. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Susan, daughter Tory and husband Ryan Clark, grandson Ian James of Norfolk, Virginia, sister Sherry and husband Gaston Tew of Eufaula, Alabama, as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Julian was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Edna and Billie Hollis, father James Johns, and brother Kent Johns. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Richard Moon officiating.
