Larry Joel Oldenburger, age 75, of Ankeny, Iowa was born on a farm near Parkersburg, Iowa, on March 25, 1937, the son of Fred and Ethel “Babe” (Reints) Oldenburger. Larry was baptized at the Bethel Lutheran Church. He received his education and graduated from Parkersburg High School where he participated in baseball and basketball.

Larry farmed and worked at Western Buyers in Parkersburg until 1980. He then started Mid Iowa Hog Market. In 1984, Larry moved to Annandale, Minnesota and started Best Way Transfer, retiring in 2010 due to health reasons. While there he attended St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Larry enjoyed walleye fishing at Lake of the Woods in Canada and Leach Lake, Minnesota, hunting, sports and especially baseball. He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture. Larry loved his special friend, his dog, Willie.

Larry died on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa of natural causes. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeff Oldenburger.

Larry is survived by one daughter, Lessa (Eric) Eshelman of Ankeny, IA; two sons, Todd Oldenburger of Ames, Iowa and Michael (Sherri) Oldenburger of Eagle Grove, Iowa; three grandchildren, Nick Biber, Natalie Lane and Jake Oldenburger; one sister, Joyce (Dean) Harrenstein of Parkersburg, IA; Niece, Kristi (Dwight) Eley and Nephew, Barry Harrenstein.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319)346-1534, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
