
Mr. John F. McMullen, 81, of Troy, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Silex Community Care in Silex. He was born on June 4, 1930 in Rochester, NY to Charles and Margaret (Collins) McMullen. John had two younger brothers: Robert and Dan. John grew up in Rochester, NY and after his formal schooling, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. This is where he met his future wife, Irene Schmidt. They were joined in holy matrimony on September 2, 1955 in Germany. After his honorable discharge from service, the couple continued to live in Germany and he sold insurance. John was a good provider for his wife and son, Richard. The couple moved back to Rochester, NY in the 1960's and John continued selling insurance for Mutual of Omaha. He was later transferred to St. Louis. Some of his pastimes included being on a bowling league and traveling with his family. John was very active throughout the years in V.F.W. both in Germany and in the States. His military service meant a great deal to him. He was honored to serve his country anyway he could. Later, the family relocated to Elsberry. He worked with his son, Richard, at "Complete Mobile Home" until his retirement. His beloved wife, Irene, passed away on Oct. 24, 1989. He later met Emily Knuckles in Troy and they were the best of friends. John moved to Poplar Bluff for several years before moving back to Lincoln County. He was a loving husband, devoted father and "opa" to his granddaughter, Jacqui.
Surviving are his loving son, Richard McMullen and wife, Cathy; his granddaughter, Jacqui; his brothers: Robert McMullen of Rochester, NY and Dan McMullen and wife Jean of Rochester, NY; and his special friend, Emily Nuckles of Poplar Bluff; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene McMullen.

Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, 10:00 a.m., at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Center in Troy. Officiating: Pastor Martin Smay. Interment to follow in the Old Alexandria Cemetery, Troy. Serving as pallbearers: Jeff Klaas, John Klaas,Randy Klaas, Richard McMullen, Dennis McClain.
