Charles H. Smith, Jr. 61, of Beaufort and husband of Vera Bostick Smith, departed this life on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Hospice Of Savannah.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Recruit Chapel, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Burial will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.

Charles H. Smith, Jr. was born November 13, 1950, in Harrodsburg, KY to Price G. Smith and Rev. Charles H. Smith, Sr. He received his early education in the public schools of Harrodsburg, KY. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1968. In January, 1975 he joined the US Navy. Although he received numerous awards and honors during his career, he attributed all his accomplishments to God as quoted an except from an article written about him, “None of this would be possible without God, as I also have the honor of being a licensed and ordained Elder in the Gospel Ministry. If I've been successful it's because God has put me around people, and placed me in situations where I have had the opportunities to be successful. I am eternally grateful.” He retired after 30 years of service to his country. After his retirement he was employed at Georgia Pacific and with Cascades Tissue Group and a Maintenance Manager until 2010. During his career he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science In Management, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Elder Smith accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1988 and joined Fishers of Men Pentecostal Church where he served faithfully in leadership until he went home to be with the lord. His love for God and zeal for spreading the Gospel everywhere he went could only be matched by his extensive study and powerful preaching of the Word of God. He exemplified Christ in his daily walk with the lord, and will be greatly missed as a leader, motivator, mentor and friend to his wife and children, and all of the Fishers of Men Church Family.

Charles married Vera Bostick on July 13, 1971. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 40 years Vera, a son Charles H. Smith III, Tonya Smith, Shri Smith, Kimberly Smith-Rucker (Adrian), a nephew David Bostick, who was like a son; grandchildren, Anthony Sims and Ashley Smith; mother in-law, Mrs. Josephine Bostick; brothers John (Debra) and Albert Mitchell, James and Dale Smith, all of Harrodsburg, KY; sisters Almetra (Walter)Taylor, Harrodsburg, KY, Debra Raines, Lexington, KY, Angela Smith, Lexington, KY; Laura (Cornell) Hall, Katy, TX; uncle, Ansel Smith, Cincinatti, OH; like a sister, Vernetta Thurman, Danville, KY; brothers-in-law, Richard, Jr., Charles (Betty), Duane (Rita) Bostick all of Beaufort; sisters-in-law Richardean Hinds, Mt. Pocono, NY, Marcia (Kevin) Jordan, Indy Bostick, Gloria (Gabriel) Abreu all of Beaufort, SC, Sandra (Gerrodd) Stevenson, of Belleville, Illinois and Wanda (Marion) Burns of Beaufort, SC; , devoted friend, Pauline Bennett, the Fishers of Men Church Family, the Cascade Tissue Group Co-workers, a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
