B. Jackie Barnwell of New City, NY, a longtime resident of Pearl River, NY, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at her home. She was 87. Mrs. Barnwell was an executive secretary for Lehn and Fink in Montvale, NJ for many years before retiring in 1993. Jackie was born August 9, 1923 in London, England to Julius and Mary Coates. She was educated in the Bronx and graduated from Evander Childs High School. Mrs. Barnwell served in the United States Army from 1944-1952 attaining the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. She was the first WAC in the organized reserve to enter the MP ranks. She was with the military intelligence service in France and Germany during WWll and also worked with the French underground. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Jackie will be remembered for her love of family, her service to her country and her sociable personality and great sense of humor. She is survived by her children, Maureen Santa Maria and her husband John, Jonathan Barnwell and Deidre Barnwell and her husband Philip of MD and her two cherished granddaughters, Nicole and Simone and many beloved friends and family. Jackie made friends every where she went. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph P. Barnwell, also a WWll Veteran who retired at the rank of Major. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:15 AM Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church, West Nyack, NY. Visiting is Friday from 5 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
