Robert J. Steblein, age 74, of Wilson, NY, died at his home on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. He was surrounded by his family and under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was taken too early by cancer. Born on January 29, 1936 in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late William and Amelia (Feigl) Steblein.
Mr. Steblein started his working career at Loblaws, Inc. in local markets and then worked for Simonds Saw & Steel (Guteral Speciality Steel) in Lockport, NY. He also worked for CMSB Magnetics and Sadlo Lumber & Wood Products.
Bob was an avid gardener who loved to teach people how to grow a vegetable garden or take care of plants. After retiring, Mr. Steblein owned and operated a chain sharpening business for chain saws. He taught many customers how to care for their chains and saws properly.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Rance) Steblein; son, Lawrence W. Steblein; daughter, Catherine (Marty) Stephenson; and son, Robert D. Steblein, all of Wilson, NY, his four grandchildren, Paul and Tyler Stephenson, Robert L. Steblein, and Calix GoVirtuoso, all of Wilson. Bob is also survived by his sisters, Mary Sicard, Carol (George) Zacher, Jean Krenitsky and brother James (Wanda) Steblein; his mother-in-law, Alice Rance; brother and sister-inlaw, The Reverend's John and Sandra Rance; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings William A. Steblein, Jr. and Rita Nicholson.

A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 12 p.m. in St. Brendan on the Lake, Wilson, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilson Fire Co. #1, 250 Young St., Wilson, NY 14172 and to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094-1231.
