Mr. Monroe A. Baughn, Jr. died at his home July 16, 2010. Mr. Baughn was born in Lexington, MS on June 20, 1926 where he lived through his grammar school years. After living in Livingston, his mother placed him and his sisters in orphanages until she could prepare a place for them. When she returned to get them they lived in Jackson, MS.
At age sixteen he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country in the South Pacific. Later in his life he served in the U.S. Air Force and taught watchmaking at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. After his military service, he utilized his educational benefits by doing an internship as an auto mechanic then attended watchmaking school. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and manage several businesses. He is a member of American Legion Post 488 in New Boston,TX and is a past member of the Guild of Watchers.
Monroe was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Annella Posey Baughn, his daughter, Deborah Stanford and his step son-in-law Dan Pace.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Lavenia Cox-Baughn;two granddaughters, Sara Denman of Vail, CO and Annella Stanford of Linden, TX;four step daughters, Georgia Pace Roberts of Denton, TX, Arlena Stallman of Plano, TX, Dianne Stallman of Fort Worth, TX and Michele Goodwin and her husband, Barry, of DeKalb, TX; seven step grandsons; two step granddaughters and seven step great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 19, 2010 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with John Hall officiating under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.
