U.S. Veteran

John Augustine “Jack” Keough a long time resident of Suffern NY passed away June 9, 2010 at home at the age of 77. Born August 28, 1932 in the Bronx, NY to John and Catherine Keough, Jack was a Manhattan College graduate in 1961, Jack was an Airforce veteran, and worked for the Town of Ramapo Planning Department for many yeas before retiring in 1991. Along with John McAlevey and other Town of Ramapo officials, he was involved in the Seminal Land use control case, Matter of Golden V Planning Bd .of the Town of Ramapo (1972)in which the NYS Court of Appeals upheld, and praised the Town Of Ramapo’s land use controls .He was active in local politics and civic and Veteran’s group’s, including Rotary International, Korean War Veteran’s and the Rockland County Democratic party, and Ramapo Sportsman Assoc., Jack served with the US Air force Strategic Air Command from 1952-1956. He was a long time Boy Scout leader, he could read and write in Gaelic, and accomplished Philatelist, of stamps from Ireland and England, and an ardent NRA supporter. He is survived by his domestic partner Joann Soules and family ,his sisters Nancy Higgins, Frances Murphy, and several nieces and nephews, and his life long friend Clara Williams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 14, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River NJ burial will follow at the FW Loescher Veteran’s Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Scarr Funeral Home Inc Route 202 Suffern. In lieu of flowers donations to the Korean War Veterans would be appreciated.
