STAUNTON, VA…

Charles Richard Ballengee, 83, beloved husband of Phyllis L. Ballengee of Staunton, died Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Augusta Health, Fishersville.

He was born March 12, 1926 in Augusta County, a son of the late James Elmer and Maude Meda (Michilinie) Ballengee.

Mr. Ballengee is a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during WWII. Prior to retirement, he was employed by DuPont.

He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Staunton, where he served as Deacon Emeritus.

In addition to his wife, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra B. and Doug Reid of Charlottesville and Meda B. and Ed Sterrett of Richmond; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mildred Fry and Betty Lou and Aubrey Jackson, Jr., all of Staunton; four grandchildren, his grandson and special buddy, Zachary Reid, Abigail Reid, Megan Lowe and her husband, Brandon, and Lindsey Allen and her husband, Davis; a great granddaughter, Sadie Michelle Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Ballengee; and two sisters, Charlotte Harlow and Hilda Huntley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church, Staunton, by the Rev. Dr. Steve Traylor. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Zachary Reid, Don Huntley, Ron Huntley, Tom Huntley, Jerry Fry, and Dennis Harlow.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Ever Young Singers of First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Henry Funeral Home.
