IONE JONES

Emma Ione Jones age 98 went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, November 03, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. She was a resident of Trinity Healthcare. Services will be held Friday, November 06, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating, burial will follow at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ethelsville, AL. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m.until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Jones was born on Thursday, July 06, 1911 in Potts Camp, MS to the late Horace B. Sanders and Lula Sanders Bishop. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus. She owned and operated her own alteration shop in downtown Columbus for many years. She was respected as an expert seamstress in this field. Mrs. Jones was a charter member of First Freewill Baptist Church. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus, and was a very strong Christian woman.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Jones, her sister Dorothy Ward (Herndon), her brothers Earl Bishop (Ann), Everette Bishop (Betty), Curtis Bishop and her son-in-law Troy Shackleford.

Her grandchildren remember their Ma Maw cooking French fries for breakfast, eating her famous runny chocolate cake, and always scrapping the batter bowl.

Survivors Include Three Daughters: Martha J. Shackelford, Columbus, MS Sue Shelton (David), Columbus, MS Betty Conn (Jack), Ethelsville, AL 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and 14 Great Great Grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Steve Shackleford, Mark Turner, Jack Speed Jr., Johnny Crimm, Greg Noland, Eddy Godfrey, David Parker, and James Baird.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Bishop, David Bishop, Marshall Bishop, Donald Ward, and the employees of Trinity Healthcare. Special Thanks, to all the workers and nurses who took excellent care and gave love to our mother.
