Constance J. Holt

Constance J. (Holland) Holt, age 96, died November 3, 2009 at Allegiance Hospital in Jackson.

Connie was born on October 26, 1913 in Detroit to Robert T. and Jane L. (Hemming) Holland along with her twin sister Pauline I. (Holland) Carroll, who preceded her in death in February of 2006.

She was a graduate of Homer High School, classs of 1933, and of the Calhoun County Normal School in 1934. She then taught grades K-8 at the former Runyon and Mains Schools for seven years. After marrying, she provided child care in her home and later worked as a nurse’s aide at Oaklawn Hospital for several years.

Connie had been a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall and later in life became a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church.

On June 1, 1941 Connie married Erwin W. Holt of Marshall in Waldron. They lived in Marshall throughout their marriage. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Michael Carpenter of Horton as well as grandchildren Anne (Douglas) McKillop of Jackson, Craig Carpenter of Allen Park, and great-grandchildren Conner McKillop, Camille Carpenter and Chloe Carpenter as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 Old 27 North in Marshall on Friday beginning at noon.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held following visitation on Friday at 1:30PM at the funeral home with Rev. Len Schoenherr officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery.

A reception will follow committal at the Kempf Funeral Home Reception Hall at 723 Old 27 North for family and friends. If you do not wish to go to the cemtery you are welcome to await the family's return to the hall from the cemetery.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or Marshall United Methodist Church. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.

Connie’s family would like to express deep appreciation to the staffs of Summit Park Assisted Living, Arbor Manor Nursing Home and Allegiance Health Care for their wonderful care and many kindnesses over the past 11 years.
