Carol Sue DeVere

Carol Sue DeVere, 64, of Charleston and Boone County passed away from her earthly life, with her family beside her, at CAMC Memorial Hospital on Nov. 2, 2009. Carol was the daughter of Denver and Lucille Price of Madison.

She was a member of the 1964 graduating class of Scott High School. She was a loving mother. She did extensive research of the genealogy of the Price family. Carol was an artist. She loved singing and was a former member of the Sweet Adelines International. Carol loved working in her garden and spending time with her animals. She was twice the survivor in hard-fought battles with cancer. Carol was a community leader in the fight against domestic violence as the former director of the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program, a social worker and an art therapist.

She was preceded in death by her father, Denver C. Price.

Remaining here to cherish her memory and carry on in her many family traditions are her mother, Lucille Price Wheatley of Rock Creek; her wonderful and loving husband of 45 years, Robert DeVere of Charleston; her son, Benjamin, daughter-in-law, Carrie, and grandchildren, Joey, Chris and Abrielle, of Dunbar; her sisters, Kathy Keller of Charleston and Phyllis Casey of Lakin; her nephew, Nick Keller of Charleston; her nephew, Jerry Casey, his wife, Laurie, and their daughter, Carol's great-niece, Ashley; her niece, Amanda Holland of Baltimore, Md., her husband, Steve, and their son, Carol's great-nephew, Zach; her nephew, Mike Casey of South Charleston, his wife, Lisa, and their son, Carol's great-nephew, Cody; her niece, Stacy Null of Parkersburg; and her many friends and family members who loved her very much.

Her close family will have a private gathering to remember the wonderful and cherished time that she had with us.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either the Humane Society or the YWCA Resolve Family Abuse Program.
