Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for Michael William "Uncle Mike" Lemelle, age 62, who passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 3:34 p.m. at his residence in Sunset.

Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Mr. Lemelle was a native and a lifelong resident of Sunset. He was the owner and operator of Lemelle's Plumbing in Sunset for more than twenty years. He loved his job and went out of his way to help people. Mr. Lemelle never turned anyone away in need of his service, he didn’t know how to say no. Mr. Lemelle was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lemelle was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau. He was a member of Brooks-Richard Post # 556. He was also a Knights of Peter Claver Meche Council #34.

Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Mary Pierre Lemelle of Sunset; three sons, John Lemelle of Grand Coteau, Joseph Lemelle and his wife, Michelle, of Baton Rouge and Led Lemelle and his companion, Lisa Prince, of Sunset; three daughters, Pamela Guillory and her husband, Patrick, of Scott, Carolyn Nevis and her husband, Philip, of Bellevue and Angela Roberts and her husband, Collins, Jr. of Opelousas; nineteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Brooks and his wife, Elsie, of Sunset; and three sisters, Lugenia Lemelle of Sunset, Victoria Eaglin of Houston and Marie Mayfield of Grand Coteau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Lemelle, Sr. and the former Alice Blocker both natives of St. Landry Parish.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Philip Nevis, Collins Roberts, Jeffery Lemelle, Leo Lemelle, Patrick Guillory, Jimmy Milton, Ronald Lemelle and Charles Brooks.
