David R. Keltner

U.S. Veteran David R. Keltner, of Montclair, NJ and formerly of Springfield, died at age 86 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic, New Jersey on October 30, 2009. He was born in Globe, Arizona the son of Claude E. and Geno Lewis Keltner. He was married to Loraine Thompson in 1947 until her death in 2005.

Graduated from University High School, Normal. Mr. Keltner served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a representative for Rockford Life, Metropolitan Life, and Lincoln National Insurance Companies and was co-owner of Dutch Treat Restaurant in Virden for several years. After his retirement he was a school bus driver for the Ball Chatham school district.

He was a member and past deacon of First Christian Church in Springfield. He was a member of the Collie Club of America and a past member of the Illinois Capital Kennel Club and Capital Canine Training Club for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Karen Sue Keltner; son-in-law, Vincent Lalomia; two devoted grandchildren, Jessi and Cole; in-laws, Bill and Joanne Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son David Keltner, II in 1992.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Friday, Nov. 6, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at West Twin Grove Cemetery, near Bloomington.

Memorials contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or Inner City Missions of Springfield.
