Born in Philadelphia, Mary was the daughter of William & Mary Layer. She was a member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and had retired from Carlton School in 1989. During WWII she had worked at Sunship in Chester and she also worked for WirePro in Salem. She is survived by her children, Mike Nelson of Woodstown, James Jr. and his wife Helen of Virginia, Gary and his wife Candy of Carney's Point, Steven and his wife Donna of Carney's Point, Kevin and his wife Becky of Carney's Point, David and his wife Penny of Arizona and Pamela Schumacker and her husband John of Virginia, a brother George Layer of Pennsylvania and thirty combined grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband James Sr., a son Ricky and a brother William predeceased her. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Corpus Christi Chruch 369 Georgetown Rd. Carneys Point, where friends are invited to visit from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be in the All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
