Gracie Mae “Lucy” Owens, daughter of Ben A. and Irene (Walker) Pratt, was born December 22, 1923 in Jackson, Tennessee. She passed away October 31, 2009 in her daughter’s home in Rockville, Missouri at 85 years of age. Lucy spent most of her life in Vernon, Alabama. She met and later married Griffin Owens in 1945 and to this union two daughters were born. Lucy worked as a housekeeper at Vernon Hospital while raising her family. She liked to plant and care for her vegetable and flower gardens and then can the fruits of her labor. In 2000 Lucy moved to Kansas City with her daughter, Anner’s family, then in 2002 they moved to Rockville, Missouri. She was a member of the Murray’s Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Vernon, Alabama. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Mary Rose Guyton and a brother Jack Pratt. Survivors include her two daughters, Anner Porter of Rockville, Missouri and Annie Hardin and husband Joe of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren, Steven Sykes of Rockville, Melody Thomas-Graham of Cincinnati, Trent Lewis-Porter of Rockville and David Porter of Kansas City, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Sykes, Bradley Sykes, Lakeshia Sykes all of Vernon, Angelia Thomas and Carlton Thomas of Cincinnati; three great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
