Lawrence was born at the family home in Bartlett, Tx. on February 3, 1939 to Timothy and Frances Havelka. When not in school, he helped his parents farm cotton, maize, wheat, and corn. Lawrence graduated from Jarrell High School in 1957 and went to work in Temple at Wilson Plastics. He left there and then went to work in Austin at Capital Aggregates and the later worked as a carpenter, home builder and superintendent for various home builders throughout Central Texas. He met the love of his life, Mary Frances Marak at a local dance and they married on March 31, 1962 and lived in Austin until 1984. He joined the United States Army in 1962 and went to basic training in El Paso and was stationed at Ft. Meade in Maryland, he served his country and was honorably discharged in 1968. Lawrence was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Austin and played for the church softball team, he was a member of the Travis County Bass Association and won many tournaments. He and Mary Frances moved back to Jarrell in 1991 where they joined Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Lawrence continued to farm, paint local tractors and build miniature doll houses.
Lawrence loved and was devoted to his grandchildren; Clint Joseph Smith, Timmy Havelka, and Jordyn Havelka. They were his pride and joy. He enjoyed cheering at his grandson’s baseball games, loved fishing with them and made a beautiful doll house for Jordyn and he loved to receive their artwork. Lawrence also loved his extended granddaughter, Brooke Lindly and enjoyed her love and care for him.
Lawrence enjoyed going to Rockport, fishing and relaxing with his family several times a year. He enjoyed hunting with his sons, and planting flowers with his daughter. He also enjoyed farming, playing dominoes, and poker with his buddies, and listening to Czech music on the radio on Sundays. He treasured a last trip to Rockport with James on October 26, 2009.
Lawrence is survived by his loving children; daughter, Theresa Havelka Smith and husband Maurice of Pflugerville; son, James Havelka of Pflugerville and David Havelka and wife Jennifer of Jarrell; grandchildren, Clint Joseph Smith, Timmy and Jordyn Havelka and his extended family granddaughter, Brooke Lindly who loved and will miss him greatly. Other family members include his sisters, Helen Jezisek of Granger, Isabel Friebrich of Rockne, and Edith Goertz and husband Elmer of Pflugerville; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents; Timothy and Frances, and his loving wife, Mary Frances.
He will always be remembered for his strength and love of family and friends and his enjoyment of life itself.
