Jeanette M. Rice, age 83, of Oshkosh, peacefully passed away on October 31, 2009, at her home with her family at her side.  She was born on November 18, 1925, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Leo and Bertha (Reischl) Polishinski.  Jeanette married Fred Rice on December 16, 1961, in Fond du Lac.  He preceded her in death after 32 years of marriage.   She missed him greatly and is now at peace with him and her Lord.

Jeanette is survived by five children: Larry (Pat) Rice of Menasha, Phyllis Rice of St. Peters, Missouri, Les (Char) Rice of Oshkosh, Marianne (Doug) Spain of California, Kentucky, Catherine (Joe) Sawicki of Oshkosh; 10 grandchildren:  Shannon (Pete) Parry, John and Sara Herrle, Lee and Jeremy Rice, Jenna Dietz, Curtis Spain, James, Joey and Micayla Sawicki; and six great grand-children.  She is also survived by sisters, Judy (Jerome) Faust and Pat (Cliff) Neubauer; sisters-in-law, Marlene and Lou Ann Polishinski; and brothers-in-law, Mel Hitchcock and Bob Schmeidel.  She was preceded in death by brothers: Gilbert, Gerald and Leon Polishinski; sisters Germaine Hitchcock and Marcella Schmeidel; and her Aunt, Vern Haidlinger, who was dear to her heart.

Beginning in 1951, Jeanette was one of the first school crossing guards for the City of Oshkosh.  She was a life-long member of St. Jude Parish (formerly St. Vincent).  Fred and Jeanette enjoyed visiting Las Vegas regularly and their steak and martini Saturday nights, followed by a game of poker.  Jeanette loved to crochet and many family members and friends have something beautiful that she made to remember her.  In recent years, she enjoyed visiting with her friends at LHO Simeanna III.

A funeral service will be held for Jeanette at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, Rev. Tom Reynebeau officiating.  Relatives and friends are invited to visit and share support at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 3:30 P.M. until the time of the service.  Private family burial at Lakeview Memorial Park will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009.  Condolences may also be shared at www.seefeldfuneral.com.
