Larry "Hank" Jennings

U.S. Veteran Larry H. “Hank” Jennings, age 71, a longtime resident of Grays Harbor, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Northwest Hospital in Seattle. Mr. Jennings was born on March 14, 1938, in Glenoma, Washington to Arthur Ellis and Agnes Lavina (Tiller) Jennings. The family moved to Hoquiam in the late 1940’s. While serving in the US Navy, Hank married his high school sweetheart, Esther Faye Bland in 1956.

He served as a Hoquiam Policeman in the 1960’s and as a City Councilman in the 1970’s. He worked as a boom man for Anderson Middleton Logging Co. Hank and his brother, Chuck, had Chuck & Hanks Construction. In 1978, Hank moved to Ocean Shores to be closer to their construction business. In 1989 the company became Hank Jennings & Sons Construction. Mr. Jennings loved to fish and hunt and was very proud to have had a successful elk hunt 17 years in a row.

Survivors include; a daughter, Sheree Joe Jennings of Longview; a son, Larry H. Jennings, Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Montesano and a son, Craig Ellis Jennings and his wife, Janette of Ocean Shores; a nephew, Curt Begley of Ocean Shores; a niece, Rena Ferreira of Olympia; three sisters, Mary Lou Gage (Bob) of Edmonds, Betty Ann Hutchison (Ben) of Morton and Linda Cournyer-Heath of Surprise, AZ; two brothers, Charles Elbert Jennings of Napavine, WA and Arthur Ellis Jennings, Jr. of Gilbert AZ; four grandchildren, Eric Emery, Jeremy Jennings, Trey Jennings and Matt Jennings; several great grandchildren; an aunt, Frances Richardson of Tenino.

In addition to his parents and wife, Esther, two daughters, Suzanne Jennings and Sandra Lee Emery and a brother, Jerry Ellis Jennings, died previously.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel in Hoquiam. An urn committal service with military honors will follow at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
