Alberta  Robb

Alberta Robb, 84, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Mt Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg, KS. She was born January 2, 1925 in Hoisington, Kansas to William Albert and Gladys (Cunningham) Walker. She graduated from Hoisington High School in May 1942 and earned a B.S. in Education and Library Science at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1946. She was the Children’s’ Librarian at the Topeka Public Library from 1946 to 1951. On March 4, 1951, she was united in marriage to Arthur L. Robb in Topeka. They moved to Pittsburg in September 1956, when Mr. Robb became District manager of the Social Security Office. She became an elementary librarian for USD 250 at Washington, Eugene Field, and Lincoln schools. Mrs. Robb was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Five Mary’s Circle and UMW. She was a 40 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma and belonged to AARP Chapter 646, YMCA and Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel. She was a faithful attendee at MCMC’s Cardiac re-hab and enjoyed the friendships she made there. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Johnson and husband, Bill of Wichita and Carol Ann Robb of Pittsburg; sister-in-law, Adella Shafer of San Francisco, CA; nieces, Judy Dodge of Los Altos, CA, Marjorie Hanlon of Battle Creek, MI, Jean Branson of Overbrook, KS, Sue Wilkey of Wichita, and Beth Lamont of Pacific Northwest; nephews, Bill Webb of New Baden, IL and Paul Robb of San Marcos, CA; cousins, Max Cunningham of Conroe, TX, Mary Nichols and Lyla Vaughn of Wichita; and a special friend, Sandy Anderson McCann. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant daughter. Services will be 1:30 P.M. Monday (Nov. 2nd) at the First United Methodist Church with Rev Jim Akins and Rev. Kathleen Owsley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor of the church. Private family burial will precede the service in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Brady, Roger Cunningham, Phil Carter, Richard Ellis, Richard Henry, Warren McCann, Marvel Harry, Marilyn Noble, Ferne Small, and Joann Triplett. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 5 P.M. Sunday. The family suggests memorials to Mt. Carmel Care Van. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
