Peggy Wenk Benoit passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 from a sudden illness at the age of 63. She was born to Peggy Bellows Wenk and Herbert J. Wenk on June 14, 1946 and was a lifelong Shreveport resident. Peggy proudly graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1964 and attended Centenary College. Shortly thereafter she married and started a family. Full of tenacity and spunk, Peggy had many creative interests including sewing, organic gardening and cooking, not to mention she was an accomplished pilot by the age of 17. Just about the only thing that Peggy could not do was sing, but that did not stop her. Throughout her life, she has been extremely devoted to her church and more recently to the ASPCA. Peggy was always fighting for a cause and for the underdog. Her biggest victory came when she won her nearly decade-long battle with cancer. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother and strongly believed that her work in the home was the most important job of all. Both visitation and funeral services will take place at Osborn Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Stoner Ave. Peggy is survived by her husband, Joseph William Benoit, Jr., her two daughters, Virginia Lillian Harris and Helen Merriam Harris, her son, Frank Gaines Harris, IV, his wife, Melissa Davis Harris, her grandson, Frank Gaines Harris, V and her brother, Herbert Craig Wenk. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Parnell, Kenneth Culbertson, Laird Evans, Chad Elliot, Wes Elliot, Frank Brookings and James Madison (Honorary).
