Mary Audrey Snelling, 99, homemaker and long-time resident of Shreveport, passed away on Saturday, October 24. Mrs. Snelling was born in Dixie, Louisiana on July 9, 1910. She grew up in Tree City and in Mooringsport, Louisiana. She was married for 57 years to Will Dick Snelling. Mrs. Snelling was a devoted member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She had the honor of being the first woman to be elected to serve on the Administrative Board of Noel Methodist Church. She served on various committees, including the Commission on Finance, Board of Trustees, and the Commission on Missions. She had been President of the Shreveport District of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the Rasmussen Class and the Friendly Circle. She also served as an elected officer of the Progressive Study Club of the Women's Federated Clubs. Mrs. Snelling is survived by her sister, Marjory Lawrence; her sons and their wives, Tom and Daisy Snelling and Richard and Linda Snelling; her son-in-law, Calvin Gleason; seven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Mary Kathryn Snelling Gleason; her parents, Dr. Paul & Kate Lawrence; her brothers, Banks, David, Richard, Paul, and Wilson Lawrence; and her sister, Kathryn Lawrence Beckham. Funeral arrangements are through Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport with visitation at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport followed by a memorial service at Lane Memorial Chapel at Noel Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Flint Shea. Memorials may be made to the general fund of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church.
