“Don” as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Competition High School in 1943. He worked in a factory in Kansas City, Missouri, before his marriage on July 21, 1946, to Bernice Montgomery. To this union was born two children, both surviving. Don and Bernice shared sixty three wonderful years together.
Don worked at Montgomery Motor Sales for fourteen years, before opening his own used car lot in Lebanon. He also owned and operated Johnson Chrysler Plymouth dealership and sold mobile homes, in Rolla, Missouri for several years. Later they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a period of time, before settling in Springfield, Missouri.
Don accepted Jesus as his savior in Kansas City, Missouri, while attending a revival held by Dr. W.E. Dowell. At the time of his death, he was a faithful member of the Seminole Baptist Temple in Springfield, Missouri, where he enjoyed the fellowship of his church family and made many lasting friendships.
He is survived by his wife Bernice; one son, Steven Johnson of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter, Patti Bothwell and her husband Craig of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Paige Bothwell Dick and her husband Jarrett of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lesli Bothwell of Austin, Texas, Jordan Johnson and his wife Jeni and Melody Johnson, all of Orlando, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, T.J. and DeLores Shadel of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and their wives, Hayward and Mary Johnson, and Robert and Janice Johnson.
