Cynthia Gjestrum, age 54, of Mahnomen, MN, died Friday, October 23, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Cynthia Marla Gjestrum was born on August 13, 1955 to Ruby (Shaugobay) & Myrl Gjestrum in White Earth, MN. Throughout her childhood, she enjoyed the company of her siblings- Cyrlene, Myrl, Marc, & helped raise her younger siblings: Michelle & Tony. She attended primary schooling & after completing that, she went on to graduate from the Detroit Lakes Technical College. She earned a Business Degree which made her family very proud. After graduation, she then held various jobs, including working as a grant writer. She found her calling when she became a Special Needs Foster Parent. After fostering many children, she adopted her pride & joy, Quisha.
On May 17, 2008, she welcomed her grandson, Brylee, who holds a special place in her heart. Cindy enjoyed watching & reading Sci/Fi, entering sweepstakes, doing crossword puzzles, but mostly spending time with family & friends. She loved her many nieces & nephews who brought laughter & joy to her life.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Quisha Gjestrum, Bemidji, MN; her grandson Brylee, Mankato, MN; her mother, Ruby Buehner, Mahnomen; her father Myrl Gjestrum, Yakima, WA; her brothers Myrl Gjestrum, Marc (Angela) Gjestrum, both of Yakima, WA, & Tony (Ana) Buehner, Mahnomen, MN; her sisters Cyrlene (Charlie) Foster, Roosevelt, MN & Michelle (Smokey) Wadena, Waubun, MN.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents & her step-father Gary Buehner, Sr.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush, MN, with Marilyn Goodwin officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Charlie Foster, Darell (Smokey) Wadena, Jr., Tony Buehner, Earl Olson, Darrell Wadena III, & Darren (Bear) Wadena.
