Nellie Pearl Valentine

Mrs. Nellie Pearl Valentine 99, of Trumann, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro Ark. Mrs. Valentine was born Wednesday, January 12, 1910 in Tuckerman, Ark. She lived in the Trumann area most of her life, but grew up and spent most of her younger years just south of Marked Tree. She was a member of the Cental Missionary Baptist Church in Trumann.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Valentine, on October 19, 1971. They raised four children on their farm in the McCormick Community; Velma Spencer of Arnold, Missouri, Doug Valentine of St. Louis, Missouri who passed this life, Donald Valentine of Memphis, Tenn., and Joyce Woodham of Jonesboro. Another child, Elmer Ray Valentine died as an infant. He was a twin to Velma.

Nellie was the oldest child of the late James and Ada Curtner Canada. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Emmons, Geneva Blasingame, and Ruby Hendrix., and one brother, James “Bud” Canada. She is survived by the youngest sister, Ida Mae Collins of Harrisburg. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Connie Spencer, Jimmy Valentine, Deborah Weaver, Deedra Wilson, Matt Valentine, Carl Woodham Jr. and Warren Woodham. She has 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt Valentine, Carl Woodham Jr., Warren Woodham, Blake Wilson, Daniel Wilson and Gabe Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ladies Sunday School Class at Central Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.
