Cora A. Walker

Mrs. Cora A. Walker, age 100, of Chamois passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Autumn Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility in Linn. She was born April 9, 1909 at St. Aubert, the daughter of Charles and Birdie Brock McKnight, and attended school at St. Aubert in a one room school. She was united in marriage on November 29, 1927 at Linn to Henry F. Walker, who preceded her in death September 29, 1989.

Cora lived on a farm for 35 years and enjoyed gardening, cooking, mushroom hunting, taking care of her animals and sewing for her three girls. She loved playing the organ and singing at her church at St. Aubert. Later she moved to Chamois and worked at Oberman’s factory. Cora was a member of the Christian Church in Chamois.

Survivors include her two daughters: Geneva White of Chamois, Mary Jean Lindhorst of Kansas City; two sisters: Ruth Hoffman of Jefferson City, Mary Opel Godsey of Orange, California; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ames of Chamois, and four brothers: Ted McKnight, Buell McKnight, Archie McKnight and Raymond McKnight.

Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Murl Nash officiating. Interment will follow in the Deer Creek Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Deer Creek Cemetery.
