Wilbur Eli Richardson

U.S. Veteran Rev. Wilbur Eli Richardson, 78, of 114 Eastern Ave., Rockingham, died Monday, October 19, 2009 at his home.

Rev. Richardson was born June 30, 1931 in Richmond County, a son of the late David Clinton and Easdale Shaw Taylor Richardson. He had served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, was a retired Baptist Minister and a member of Roberdel Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher. His wife, Audrey Pankey Richardson, a brother Worth Richardson, and a grandson, Aaron Hurley, all preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children, Jerry Richardson and wife Annette of Rockingham, Mark Richardson and wife Joan of Ellerbe, Karen Braswell of Hamlet; grandchildren, Stephanie, Patty, Jennifer, Katie, Jordan, Julianne, and Kimberly Richardson, Richard and Regina Braswell, Jamey Hurley and Savannah Bowler; great grandchildren, Erin Lynn Fields and Charles Aiden Hurley. Also surviving are brothers, Legrande and Athos Richardson, both of Rockingham, Wayne Richardson of Ellerbe; sisters, Mary Lena Bristow of Harrisburg, Evonne Phillips of Wilmington, Annette Dawkins and Mazaleen Stewart, both of Ellerbe.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Smith, Rev. Otis Goins and Rev. Mike Childers officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home on Eastern Ave.
