Peter Kromm
(October 16, 1919 - October 18, 2009)

U.S. Veteran Peter “Pete” Kromm, age 90, of Oshkosh, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Bethel Home. Born on October 16, 1919 in the Township of Eldorado, Fond du Lac County, to Peter and Elizabeth (Goerlitz) Kromm, Pete married Irna Gehrt on August 22, 1970 at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass, Wisconsin.

During WWII, Pete served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines, New Guinea, Guadalcanal, New Hebrides, Bougainville, and the Northern Solomons, where he received numerous medals, campaign ribbons, and bars. After the war, Pete was employed by numerous farms in the Omro area and later retired in 1982 from Kimberly-Clark Corporation after 31 years of service.

A faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Pete served as an usher, church council member, and the church choir for many years. After moving to the Zion Apartments, he assisted with lawn care of the church and apartment grounds. Pete could be found fishing, dancing to big band music, and helping with chores on the family farms.

Mourning Pete’s death is his wife, Irna Kromm of Oshkosh; two brothers, John Kromm of Larsen and Daniel (Beverly) Kromm of Omro; a sister, Pauline Frasch of Manitowoc; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Pete in death are his parents; three brothers, Henry, George, and David Kromm; and two sisters, Marie Ryckman and Elizabeth “Betty” Koch.

Memorial funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 400 North Sawyer St., Oshkosh, with Reverend Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
