Herbert C. Jones, 79, of Athens died October 3, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born Aug. 31, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Charles W. and Eleanor Newell Jones. On September 9, 1967 he married Dorothy Lewis. She preceded him in death in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tom Jones.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was retired from the Pillsbury Mill.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and South Side Christian Church.
He is survived by a sister, Virginia (husband, Jack) Jackson of California; a step-son, Ralph “Bud” (wife, Kelly) Lewis of Daytona Beach, FL; a step-daughter, Bonnie McWhood of Loami; a step-grandson, Lance Lewis of Arkansas; four nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 from 5 to 7 PM at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 11 AM at the funeral chapel. Pastor Ray Artrip will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
