James Albert Gunter
(August 23, 1929 - October 11, 2009)

James Albert Gunter passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 from a prolonged illness.

James was born to Johnny Goodman Gunter and Mary Blanch Gunter in Jackson, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1952 during the Korean Conflict. James received his BS Degree from the University of Southern MS and his Masters Degree from Florida State University. James taught at Port St. Joe High School during the years 1956 to 1994 for a term of thirty-eight years. James was a member and attended the First United Methodist Church for many years.

James is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Eunice and daughter, Lila of Atlanta, GA. James enjoyed the game of Golf scoring a hole-in-one on July 10, 1996.

Funeral services for Mr. Gunter will be conducted 11:00 am (EST)Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe with Rev. Mack Fulcher officiating. Active pallbearers are Jerry Stokoe, Bill Thomas, Harry Lee Smith, Cliff Sanborn, Vic Laferle, Ed Creamer, Jim Belin, and Bobby Woodham. Entombment will follow in Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church. A special thank you goes out to Covenant Hospice for making his final time on this earth as comfortable as possible.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in James' memory to the First United Methodist Church and to Covenant Hospice.
