
Lynn Vail, Jr., 77, passed away at 5:06 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1932 at Liberal, Missouri to Lynn Sr. and Dorothy (Crank) Vail. Mr. Vail was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Pittsburg High School. Mr. Vail worked for the Pittsburg Fire Department prior to entering the United States Air Force. Following his discharge and return to the area, he worked for Coca Cola Bottling for several years. In 1967, he went to work for Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, where he retired in 1992 after 25 years. He played in numerous bands around the area in the 1970’s and 1980’s, including his own band, Lynn Vail and the Country Express Band. He also loved his cars. Membership was held Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Vail and his wife, Alexandra of rural Pittsburg; two daughters, Mary Shoemaker and her husband, Mike of rural Pittsburg and Vickie Bussey of Amarillo, TX; one brother, Bob Daley of Tampa, FL; one sister, Betty Turner of Excelsior Springs, MO; eleven grandchildren, Michael Shoemaker, Joseph Shoemaker, Lisa Carter, Geoffrey Vail, Lonnie Vail, Evanne Vail, Blake Vail, Loren Bussey, Brian Bussey, Stephen Bussey, and Scott Bussey; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Vail, Sr, his mother, Dorothy Pruitt, and a brother, Jim Daley. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday (October 12) at the Garden of Memories, with Pastor Bud Clapp officiating. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 will provide graveside military rites. Burial will follow the services. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday to sign the register.
