Louise Christensen, 89 of Arlington and formerly of Hetland, SD died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Louise Werner was born September 15, 1920 at rural Lake Preston to Frederick J. and Hazel (Palmer) Werner. She attended school in Lake Preston and received a teaching certificate from Eastern Normal College in Madison, SD. She married Melvin N. Christensen on December 31, 1942 and farmed with her husband south of Arlington. Their son Jerry was born May 5, 1949. They moved to a farm east of Lake Preston in 1954. She continued to teach at Hetland, Sinai and Lake Preston Elementary schools for a number of years. Her husband, Melvin passed away in 1978. Louise has been a resident of the Golden Living Center in Arlington following the close of the Kingsbury Memorial Manor in Lake Preston. Louise was an active member of the Hetland American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, Jerry (Linda) Christensen of Whitney, TX, 3 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melvin, an infant son Donald and a sister, Loretta Johnson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Christensen will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington, burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home and preceding services on Monday.
