Marion Lee Spangler

Marion Lee Spangler, 84, passed away October 06, 2009 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born May 29, 1925 in Princeton, WV to the late Otis and Thelma Spangler of Rich Creek, VA. Graduating from Narrows High School in 1942, he then attended Hiwassee College and later graduated from Emory and Henry College with a degree in Chemistry and Physics. While at Emory and Henry College he met his wife of almost sixty years, Elizabeth Hribal Spangler. After their marriage, Marion worked for Celanese Corporation in Giles County and was later transferred to Cali, Colombia South America as Plant Production Manager. Mr. Spangler returned to Rich Creek as President and owner of Spangler Oil Company. He was involved in many business ventures and was a member of the John Dove Masonic Lodge #78 in Peterstown, WV. He was a Shriner and held the 32nd degree in the Lodge. He was a member of the Rich Creek Lion’s Club, the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church, an avid golfer at the Giles Country Club, and loved many outdoor activities including farming. Mr. Spangler is survived by his sister, Helen Rucker of Vinton, Virginia; sister-in-law, Ruth Klasek of Strongsville, OH; his two sons and their wives, Gregory Lee Spangler and Katherine Booker of Roanoke, VA and Pat Wayne Spangler, D.O. and Marguerite Spangler of Murfreesboro, TN; two grandsons, Marion Lee Spangler II, D.O. and Nicholas White Spangler and his wife Rachael Spangler. A private family memorial service will be held at Birchlawn Cemetery in Pearisburg, VA on Saturday, October 17, 2009. In lieu of flowers memorial donations many be made to Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro.
