
On Monday, October 5th, 2009, Henry McDaniel King, Jr. went home to be with the Lord after a long struggle with prostate cancer. Henry was born October 2, 1940, son of Henry McDaniel King, Sr. of Cedartown and Marguerite Jackson King of Newnan. Following graduation from Cedartown High School in 1958, Henry attended Georgia Tech’s College of Industrial Management. He graduated in 1964, receiving an ROTC Commission in the Army Corp of Engineers. After a brief employment with Cummins Engine Co., Henry began serving his active military duty in St. Louis, MO. Upon completing his military service in 1966, he married the former Peggy June Faulkner of St. Louis, MO and began his engineering career in Atlanta. During these years Henry was Charter President of the Dunwoody Optimist Club and was awarded a life membership. In 1975 Mr. King returned to Cedartown and pursued various career opportunities, operating a credit reporting agency, farming, forestry, and managing real estate. He was active in many civic, business, and religious organizations; including the Cedartown Optimist Club, in which he served as Lt. Governor for the State of Georgia. He was a founding member of Grace Presbyterian Church and was President of the Cedartown Chamber of Commerce, which selected him as Outstanding Citizen of the Year. He was also active in the Polk County Republican Party. In 2005, Henry married Carol Ann Barr of Bowdon and moved to the Carrollton area where they joined Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church. Henry is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; two sons, Ralph Jonathan (Jon) and his wife Jungrok King, and Henry McDaniel King III (Dan); one grandson, Henry McDaniel King IV ( Daniel); and a sister, Nancy King Scoggins of Richmond, VA. The family will also receive visitors at Friendship Baptist Church, located in Cedartown, GA on Wednesday, October 7th at 3pm with a memorial service immediately following at 4 pm.
