Jane Elma Buffington

Jane Elma Buffington, 91, of Frontenac, passed away at 2:45 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg. She was born November 27, 1917, at Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Gibson) Lane. On February 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Cecil Harvey Buffington. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1984. Mrs. Buffington was a homemaker. Membership was held in the First Christian Church of Pittsburg. She also was a member of the 20th Century Sunday School Class, Christian Women’s Fellowship Group, the Royal Neighbors, and she was past worthy matron of the Robb Morris OES. She is survived by one daughter, Jane Ann Clanton, who worked at Washington State University, and her husband, Orval Gene Clanton, a professor emeritus of Washington State University, four grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jack Carl Buffington and her daughter-in-law, Marlene Buffington, one brother and one sister. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (October 7) at the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg, with Reverend Kevin Arensman officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The casket will be closed. The family suggests memorials to the Sunset Manor Nursing Home. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
