U.S. Veteran Dr. James A. McCoy, age 78, of Auburn, NE. Passed away Thursday, September 17, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. A service for Dr. James A. McCoy will be held Monday, Septmber 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Auburn, NE. Burial will follow at the Bedford Cemetery in Howe, NE.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, from 12:00 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 to 8 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn.

obit: James Allen McCoy son of Frank McCoy and Leola (Wheeler) McCoy was born on January 15, 1931 in Auburn, NE. He was the only child born to this union. He graduated from Auburn High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably and was discharged on February 9, 1954. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he received a Bachelors Degree in Music and Education. Jim continued his education attending the University of Indiana and receiving his Doctorate Degree from Florida State. In 1960 he moved to Puerto Rico where he lived and worked as a college professor of music for 40 years. Music was his passion, he was a very accomplished jazz pianist playing with various groups including the Dixie Devils. Dr. James McCoy moved back to Auburn in the year 2000, where he continued to be active with music and the community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburn. He provided music in the park in order to raise money for various charity organizations and sponsored scholarships for Auburn High School graduates. He taught Spanish for adult education, and was a member of the Southeast Community Band. Due to ill health Jim entered the Nemaha County Hospital on Thursday, September 10, and the next day he was transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. It is there that on Thursday, September 17, he passed away having reached the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by cousins, Norma Apple of Auburn, NE, Annie Peterson of Nebraska City, NE, Madelyn Musick of Blair, NE, Melvin F. Rumbaugh of Grand Island, NE, Margie Engles of Auburn, NE, Mary Helen Behrends of Stella, NE, Mary Boomer of New Mexico, other relatives and many friends.
