Miriam Burnham Amerson age 81 died Sunday March 8, 2009. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at West View Cemetery.
Mrs. Amerson was a native of and educated in Dublin, GA before moving to Milledgeville where she graduated from Peabody High School and attended GSCW and the Atlanta School of Beauty. She was an accomplished Needle Artist, Gourmet Cook and China Painter. She attended Callaway School of Needle Arts, studied in Paris France at the Lesage Institute, and in Brugge Belgium at an Abbey where she learned Bobbin Lace. She taught classes at Georgia College and helped many adults and children in Milledgeville and surrounding counties learn how to knit and crochet. Over the years she worked as a judge at the GA National Fair in Perry in the Needlecrafts and Needlework Division. She gave demonstrations at Browns Crossing Craft Fair and GA State Fair in Atlanta, demonstrating quilting and the great spinning wheel. Her works won many awards at Callaway Gardens, GA State Fair in Atlanta and the Georgia National Fair in Perry. She was a member of the Georgia Quilt Project in Pine Mountain Georgia, and she volunteered at Jarrell Plantation many times on the 4th of July and Labor Day giving demonstrations on the Great Spinning Wheel and Bobin Lace. She was also a member of the International Old Lacers, Creative Home Arts Club, and Needles for Jesus at the First United Methodist Church, embroiders Guild of America. Locally she spearheaded the Guidepost International project to knit sweaters for African children. With the help of other ladies she mailed 100’s of sweaters to Guidepost International over the years. She was the widow of the late Lester Edell Amerson and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Elaine Sweatland (Russell) of Milledgeville and her son Larry Amerson (Mimi) of Springfield, GA , her beloved sister Milladene Grant (Jimmy) of Milledgeville, three grandchildren; Donald Sweatland, Clint Amerson and Leslie Amerson.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moores Funeral Home.
